GIVE IT A TRY! PRAY-AS-YOU-GO is a new initiative to provide daily prayer in MP3 format, for people travelling to and from work.
GET ON THE BUS
I can’t believe it, but I do. The great people of St.
Bart’s have done it again. To date $7,000 has been
donated to “Get On The Bus”. Thank you all for your
help in sending these kids to meet with their mothers
this Mother’s Day week-end. You have made a difference
in the lives of people that are marginalized.
These children that you are helping did nothing
wrong, they just miss their moms.

PRIESTS RETIREMENT FUND
The Los Angeles Archdiocese will conduct the 7th
annual special collection next week-end, May
17th/18th, for this very important fund. The goal of
this special collection is to fully fund the actuarial requirement.
Although there has been wonderful progress
over the past 8 years, the fund continues to
have a serious shortfall. This annual special collection,
combined with a large matching gift from an
anonymous donor, is designed to make up the shortfall
by 2010. The entire net proceeds of this collection
will be added to the Priest Pension Fund of the Archdiocese.
This will continue to move us toward the
goal of fully funding our retired priests’ pensions for
many years to come. Information Supplement to the
Tidings with more information about this fund can be
found at all entrances to the Church and Chapel.
Please pick one up as you leave Church today. Donation
envelopes are in the pews and can be dropped
into the collection baskets next week-end, rather
than mailed to the Archdiocese. Once again we
thank you for your generosity.

CONFIRMATION YEAR II HOUSEBUILDING
Our Confirmation Candidates would like to thank all of you for your generosity and support of the Corazon
House-Build in Mexico, allowing them to give this great gift of love and support. The candidates and
sponsors greatly appreciated this experience helping and giving to a family in need. Because of you a

CENTERING PRAYER - The Prayer of Silence
Meditation is an inner journey of silence, stillness, and simplicity. This practice has been part of our Christian tradition since the time of the Desert Fathers. Each Wednesday evening we have the
opportunity to practice this prayer together. If Spirit calls, do not hesitate to come...7-8:30 PM at the St Bartholomew Youth Center 4545 E. Broadway, Long Beach. Each First Friday we have Centering Prayer and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at 7 PM in the church. Also, during Lent, we will be having Centering Prayer in the church on Fridays following Stations of the Cross. For more information call 562-433-2452.

NEW LIFE BEGINNINGS
The Long Beach shelter for homeless, pregnant
women is looking for volunteers to help at their collectibles/
thrift shop: Treasure Hunt Boutique at
2650 E. Broadway. Hours are 10-4, Tuesday through
Saturday. If you have a few extra hours a week (or
month) and are looking for something worthwhile and

CONFIRMATION
Wanted!! Enthusiastic, positive personality to work with the teens in our Confirmation Program. We are in need of a few good volunteers to round out our sensational team. We have a variety of flexible schedules to choose from. If you have an interest in sharing your Catholic Faith with our parish teens, then we want to hear from you. RCIA—CATECHISTS
Are you someone who looks for connections between
God’s action and human life? Do you enjoy sharing
your life and faith with others? Are you willing to grow in your own knowledge and understanding of Catholic
teachings? These are essential qualities for a catechist.
Catechists are teachers of religious education
and ministers of the Word. The Rite of Christian Initiation
of Adults (RCIA) is assembling its catechetical
team for this fall. A short training program is scheduled
for late summer for adult RCIA catechists.
